INSTALLATION

1) After unzipping this archive you freed two files: this Read Me file, and
   a file called GDW.SCR.
2) Move the GDW.SCR file into your Windows directory.

SETTING UP WINDOWS

Artwork for this module consists of many 256 color images. Although 256
colors are not required, the module does look a lot better when you're
running 8-bit color. Use the software that came with your monitor card to
set it to 256 color mode. This may involve selecting a different video
driver.

Sounds also accompany module execution. If you have a Windows-
compatible sound card or a driver that re-routes sound to your PC speaker,
you should turn it on!

RUNNING THE MODULE

Once properly installed in the Windows directory, you can run the screen
saver by

1) Double-click on your Main program item in the Program Manager.
2) Now double-click on the Control Panel icon inside that window, and
   wait while the software loads.
3) Open the Desktop item from the Control Panel window and look for the
   Screen Saver group.
4) Inside the Screen Saver group is a combo box labeled Name. Navigate
through the box to locate Gates Does Windows and select it.
5) Click on Setup. The "Gates is" saver option tells you how nervous Bill
Gates appears, and how often he performs his trademark glasses push-up.
The closer to the right the scroll bar's thumb is, the more frantic Gates
gets. The "Screen is" scroll bar indicates how dirty the screen is.
The amount of dirt increases as you move the thumb to the right.

If you have a sound card installed, or a driver that re-routes sound to your
PC speaker, you should click on the Use Sound check box. You'll hear
various sounds as Gates works.

The Blank Screen First check box indicates whether or not you want the
screen to be blacked out before Gates works. The module is more fun if
the screen is left un-blacked, but you may prefer to darken the screen more
with this option. (Note: the screen saver will also operate slightly faster if
you select this option).

Like other screen savers, Gates Does Windows has a password option. To
turn on password protection, click on the Password Protected check box
and then select the Set Password button. Complete the fields in the dialog
that comes up. The next time you run the module, you'll have to enter a
password before you can get back to your machine.

Hit OK or Cancel to save or revert your Gates Does Windows preferences
and return you to the Desktop window. Now you're ready to test out the
module. Hit the Test button and wait a few seconds while the module
loads. And now watch Bill Gates wash your screen.

OTHER WINDOWS SCREEN SAVER INFORMATION

By using the Delay arrows in the Desktop window, or by entering a
number in the Delay field, set the idle time that should elapse before the
screen saver starts up.

Note: If you have After Dark or another similar screen saver program,
make sure it's turned off. Use of After Dark interferes with the execution
of Windows screen savers.
