Having trouble with several areas of the game.  I have only 
been able to sleep once in the INN.  Every other time I try 
with the Illuminite on the table and I turn the lights out 
nothing happens.  How does one mix the water from the 
backside of the falls with the bat guano.  I have the bats but 
don't see any quano.  I destroyed my dead bonding plant in 
the incenerator and have return for a new plant, but none 
appear at the the sign.  I do not have all the jokes on tape.  
Rebbecca will not give me a joke.  She continues to say that 
she cannot translate the book.  I've shown it to her and I've 
given it to her. The teacher tells me she has the capability, but 
she will not respond.  Where are all the jokes translators 
found.  I have four pieces of the disk but can't find any more.  
HELP!!!!!

To create the potion, try reading up on ILLUMINADE (sp) in 
the Mayor's files. The Guano can only be recovered after 
you've allowed the bats to spread their wings a bit. I haven't 
tried getting a new bonding plant after throwing it in the 
incinerator, but I'd guess it would work.  You may have to 
wait around a few turns - the plant won't pop up immediately. 
Jokes can be translated by Canuk, Itah, the Blacksmith, the 
Mayor, and Rebecca.

Thanks Hack.  I've continued on for some time and have not 
seen a new bonding plant grow. When I try sleeping with the 
illuminite on the table and the lights out nothing happens.  
Without the illuminite I do get to sleep but the Gru gets me.  
How can I waste time so a new plant grows?

Tom, You need to go out of the Inn and come back. You will 
of course run out of money! Let the Bats out in the woods. 
You have a metal container don't you? Anew plant will be 
there when you need it DIG? You only need 4 jokes. Rebecca 
is the 5th. BTW sleeping although gives you points up to 
three times it is not necessary to be able to finish the game.

I've gone into the forest but the bats don't want to leave their 
cage.  I have left the Inn many times and gone on in the game 
and then came back but i am not able to go to sleep again.

Tommy, Release the bats in The Whispering Woods. I was 
able to sleep in the Inn 3 times to get points. I also fed the 
vultures three times to get more points.

I'm pretty sure that Rebecca translated for me when I asked 
her about "inventory" and clicked on the book.  Try that and 
see what happens.

I finally got the joke from Rebecca.  Although I talk to the 
teacher I did not dave after talking to her.  If she doesn't say 
that Rebecca can translate then Rebecca refuses to translate.

Where are the dwarvian Mines? I have the ability to fly, saw 
somewhere that they are across the river from the lighthouse, 
but such a place does not show up on my map. What am I 
missing?

George, You need to cross the river from the lighthouse with 
the rope,talon and a special knot. The Dwarven mines are 
there as is the Temple of Bel-Naire.

I thought that I had solved the puzzle.  Does the game 
acknowledge that fact ? Do I need the Illuminyte to get past 
the spider ? This is where I am stuck.  I have done most 
everything else, though I can't enter the mine in the beginning 
because of the darkness.   Is that the dwarven mine?  Is that 
where the helmet is ?

Yale, The helmet is given to you by the dwarven general. You 
need the Illuynite to light some thing else in the Inn. The 
spider killer is what you get trolling. You are talking about 
the troll caves. The mine is across the river from the 
lighthouse.

How can I get the necklace from the Troll leader? When he 
sees the sword he said that he's going to give it to me and 
then nothing happens.

Keep a threatening tone at all times.

Hi, I need some hints as I am stuck here in Zorkland. 1. I 
have traveled to the forrest of the spirits and I am stuck at the 
leaves. Any idea how I get past them and the boar memorial? 
2. The blacksmith gave me back a differant sword. When I 
try to get  the real sword he gave me a voucher, but i don't 
know who I have to give the voucher to. 3. I have not slept at 
the Inn because i can't get anymore money from the money 
tree. Could this be because my sword is broken? 4. Where do 
I find Canucks place, and is this where the magnet is?

Gary, At the leaves throw something. You need the true 
sword for the Boar. There is something that you need in it. 
Listen to your recorder, The blacksmith told you who to see. 
He sold it to someone. You need the true sword blessed for 
more money at the tree. Canuks is through the other end of 
the Whispering Woods. Yes the magnet is there but don't 
KNOCK yourself out.

I need something to let the bowman see.  Can I get a hint as 
to what, where, or who can help me?

Don't have a COW, man. There must be something that helps 
the eyesight.

 What do you drink to get good eyesight. Don't forget to drink 
it three times in a row. To get the drink go to the barn at 
Purdey's Farm.  You broke your sword. The true dwarven 
sword can't break. Do you think the Smitty cheated you?

What's with the whispering woods?  What should I find 
there?  I am stuck in the &*^% forest - I have gone NEES 
and I am supposed to find a money tree - but noooo.  I don't 
get anything but lost.  The only sword I have right now is the 
one I got from Moodock - the one the blacksmith has cleaned 
up for me.  Do I need to find another one?  If so - where 
might it be located?  

Are you sure you are in the right "forest"? Not just any 
"woods" will do.

Is it necessary to go through the bogs.  If so, what is the path 
you need to take?

It was necessary for us to go through the bogs, but I'm not 
sure we did it right! They are pretty easy to get through, 
however--STICK to it.

How do I start the $%&^@#$(@ motor???? I haven't seen 
anybody else ask so I must be missing something obvious..

Can someone clue me in as to what I am missing at the Forge. 
I'm trying to re-forge the disk and have equipped 6 statues 
according to the info found in the file cabinet. The orb gets 
kicked, then batted (staffed?) off the screen. The other statues 
just move the stuff I gave them, and one throws the talon.

The guy with the hat also needs a box to stand on.

Whats with the bats and now that im at the bog, is there 
anything there?

Bob, The witch-itah has some things you will need to get. 
That is if you want to be able to negotiate the Bog, and find 
your way through the Whispering Woods. Not to mention the 
potion you'll have to concoct.  Be sure to show Itah your 
picture album (hope you have pics of most animate objects).  
You'll need those bats on the first or later trip - bog is 
treacherous with nothing to be found except the way out!   
But Itah can help you negotiate it.

The blacksmith tells you a joke too off that book, try playing 
that one.

I think you're at the point where you need to find some 
religion... 

So how do I retrieve the magic item needed for the spider?  
The troll leader promises to give it to me but he never turns it 
over and when I kill him with the sword, I don't recieve 
anything either.

All talk and no threatening makes you a dull adventurer!

I'm at the New West Shanbar, got milk from the cow, got my 
sword fixed, wondered the whispering woods, but have no 
idea what to look for, and really have no idea what to do 
next, or where to go.  I get killed in the Troll cave, and at the 
vulture pits as well, even though I feed them the rotten meat.  
Please don't give me any spoilers, just a push in the right 
direction, i.e. who to talk to next (and where that person is).  
I talked to Rebecca, but now I can't find her again (I don't 
think I remeber where she is, though).  Please help me!!

The vultures will always eat the rotten meat but it needs to be 
treatedxc with something you get from the fairy in the Forest 
of the Spirits!  You can't get into the troll caves until you 
have a blessed true dwarven sword. You need a light that is 
not hand held. You need to go see Witch-itah (not in Kansas, 
Toto) Rebecca wll pop up every now and then, near the edge 
of town in the troll cave direction. That ought to keep you 
busy for a while.

Now I am stuck at the witch's , unable to pick up the bats 
without getting zapped. I did the bog maze but that was 
completely useless, since I could fly already. I have r tried 
everything in my inventory (I went back and got a SECOND 
hunk of meat afe after feedin the vultures, and she seems to 
accept it but it don't help with the bats). What kind of vague 
hint do I need to get the bats?

Show her some pictures. Don't be a COWard!

To get the boat started, you need to do something to the 
engine.  It looks pretty "ratty" to me...

The dwarf mine only takes about 13 steps, so you must be 
close.  Listen really carefully to what the dwarven generals 
say on your recorder and try again..

Take rats from box, put rats in boat...

How did you warm your hands??

Warm hands can be generated by a source of 
heat....(obviously).  I built a little fire.

You have to show it (the token) to him (the ferryman) only.

You probably don't have ENOUGH eyesight to get through 
Whispering Woods, (Have you been to see Itah?)

So, you might want to start with the Forest of the Spirits.  It 
must be mapped, and has about 6 significant locations in the 
maze.  You will need to visit/pass all of them.  Happy 
mapping.  

Throw the meat. See the trolls, solve that then see the witch 
and show her the picture of the spider.

Get more coin from the Forest of the Spirits. Then rent a 
room.  The ability to sleep at the Inn is the key. Murdocks' 
coin is for the Ferryman of the river Styx.

Morpheus (sp?) showed up in my dreams and I couldn't 
understand a word he said (and it's not on my tape recorder 
for review).

You need something that produces a warm glow like 
Illumynite. Check out the night table. It looks like a good 
place to put a light.

et the stick from the witch. Use the stick to check each path 
you can take through the dog. Click the stick on the direction 
you want to go. If it sinks into the bog, try another way. I 
wish I could give you explicit directions, but it seems to 
change everytime you visit the witch.

 A helmet will be given to you when you get to the Dwarven 
Mines.

HOW can I fly?  I have been to Canuk.  I have the egg/scroll, 
shiny metal thing, talon, and a zillion other things.

When I blow the whistle, what else should I be holding?  The 
vulture (already seasoned meated) flies overhead and that's 
about it.

 Don't knock yourself out. Check Canuk's door. I don't mean 
to pry, but do you have the true dwarven sword?

You can check if it's the "true" sword or not by going to the 
troll caves. While outside check in your inventory to see if it's 
glowing blue. If it isn't it ain't. BTW if you don't click the 
sword on the priestess and she didn't take it and hold it over 
her head to bless it, it ain't blessed yet either.

Pick the lock on the general store...

You can burn your bridges but have you burned the Bra box? 
Check out Purdys'farm again. Check out the incinerator. Read 
up on garbage disposal in the mayors files.

There's an odd box (not ordered) at one Farm that you'll need 
before you can get into store.  See what's in it & think 
"liberation".  Do the Forest before the WW, you'll have to 
map it out, but there's stuff there to do/find. 

ignoring the Whispering Woods is probably a good idea for 
the time being, but you'll need to visit the ruins, and map out 
the Forest of the Spirits.  (Hope you don't mind mapping as 
much as I do, 'cause it's HUGE.  (well, big enough, anyway) 
and there are quite a few things to do in there...).

Do I need to meet Ben?

Yes, you do need to meet Ben at some point to get off of the 
mainland.  You need to milk the cow as well

I need a hand getting over the bridge that is past the orc.  I'll 
take a hint, or the solution, anything!!!!
I've tried throwing everything I have, but the bridge just 
sinks, then rises.

I just kept dropping inventory.  Not sure if anything specific 
triggered it, but the bridge sunk, rose, and then solidified to 
cross.  You don't need anything after you cross anyhow....

How do you keep a bonding plant alive and where do I fing 
another.

You need to warm up your hands to milk the cow. The 
bonding plant will stay alive if you DUG it out; not cut it out 
from the ground. If it's dead, eat it and another one will grow 
where you found this one.

The steak is for the vultures, but you have to season it first.  
In order to season the steak, you need to navigate one of the 
woods outside of town.  But the best thing to do first is to get 
that cow milked!!!

The Forest of the Spirits! It's a very big place!

little FIRE, scarecrow?"

I seem to have run out of places to go. I've been to the 
Comedy club once and told the four jokes, receiving the disc 
piece. I cannot fly (I see messages about a talon, but don't 
know where to find it). I've been to Canuk's and Itah's (twice) 
and can get through the forest as far as the spider. Can I get a 
push in the right direction?

The Vultures eat dusted rotten meat. Have you gotten more 
Zokmids? Slept at the Inn? Gotten the magnet from Canuks? 
Found the whistle? Have you seen the bowman, milked the 
cow more than once? Remember when you come to fork in 
the road, choose a path, for no matter where you go there you 
are. Want some rye? 'Course ya do.

I have the magnet. I've been as far as the spider, so have the 
dusted meat. To fly, do I just blow the whistle?

The fork in the road was a bad joke. Nothing to do with 
Zork. Hold the magnet and blow the whistle. The vulture 
should pick you up. Once you have flown you no longer 
need the whistle or magnet and wont find it in your 
inventory. Just click on the map and click anywhere you want 
to be. If you check  the right upper corner of the map, it has a 
folded corner. Clicking here allows you to see other areas. 
You can scroll the bottom of this second page as well, to see 
the lower portions of the GUE.

I can give illuminite to the Keeper, but get nothing back from 
him. Can't cross the river without death getting me (cow hitch 
and everything). So, while I can fly around, I've been 
everywhere.

The Illumynite gets you into the lighthouse. You  used the 
cow hitch AND the talon with the rope didn't ya? 'course ya 
did.

I got into the lighthouse and spoke to Mr Personality. I have 
everything I need, except the talon. Where do I get that?

What did you do with your 'dusted meat?' If you figure out its 
use, you'll eventually end up with the talon.

There is also a dark square in the forest, which is not a dead 
end....

The bra box contains bras. <g>  However, apparently, they 
are underwire bras and you need to figure out a way to get 
the wire out so that you can use it for the purpose you 
suggested.   Talk to the farmhouse guy (Pugney, Pugsley? I 
can never remember his name) before you try to take the box.  
Try being apologetic, I think.

The 3 pieces however did not appear unless they are the disk 
the ill<forget it> shining stones, etc??

I got the box from the farmer, but cant figure out how to get 
it in the incinerator.  at 1 pt i got a message saying put things 
in the open drawer, but when i use the box on the drawer no 
options but throw and drop appear, any suggestions?

Yep, those are the three pieces.

Concentrate on 'curing' the bowman, and that will open up a 
new section of the game for you

 How do I fly ? I have the whistle and the magnet.  When I 
blow the whistle, the vulture just flies by without stopping.

HINT: Remember what the KEEPER said about his shovel 
and the Vultures?

How to get past the mad poodle?

The fairy goes to another location in the forest after the 
bowman is assisted.  Keep mapping, keep mapping.....

 I have five disc pieces.  From some other forum messages I 
know that I need to encounter a spider and I believe that it is 
in the Forest of the Spirits and may be behind some kind of 
leaf trap.  But I am unable to locate this spider or a leaf trap.

Past the bowman and the fairy, toward the north east.

Canuck is on an island accessible after navigating the 
Whispering Woods...

You need to get the bats from Itah before you can find 
Canuk. Bring the bats to the whispering woods and then do 
something liberating.

 I know that sleeping more than once is necessary....I need to 
know how many times though... You can get VERY far, 
though without sleeping more than (or even?) once.

You need a light to wear not Illumynite. You get it from the 
dwarven General. You need to get a coin from someone to 
ride the ferry. See Witch-Itah to get something to cross the 
bog that is where to find Canuk.  You need to sleep at the inn 
three times but not to move on. In fact you can finish the 
game and never sleep at the Inn.

You should be able to get the correct directions by listening 
carefully to the discussion between the Dwarven Leader and 
General. To navigate, make sure that you are not clicking the 
next direction until after you've passed the current turn.

The talon is located behind the barn, where the vultures are 
found. 

Got forged disc, and nowhere to go....no one says anything 
new, no new paths....Stuck, stuck, stuck...

How about going 'home'....

which prompted Itah to allow you to take them... believe me,

No doubt you've been killed by the Orc. Notice the message 
that you get after you die - Can't you see?  Do you have 
something that will make you disappear? Also, Orcing up the 
wrong tree? That sounds like a familiar saying. You should 
have something that will scare the Orc off.

You need the magnet before you can fly around on vultures. 
The talon doesn't come in till later, after you've flown on a 
vulture.  Have you been to the general store? If so use an item 
you found there while HOLDING the magnet.

East Shanbar-- Have you seen the Whispering Woods, Forest 
of the Spirits? Have you found Ben? Have you retrieved the 
box of bra's, gotten any carrots? The steak is used later, so 
put it back until after you find Witch-Itah, get the bats, find 
Canuk etc...She won't talk to you if you stink. (you could 
drop it in her presence also. You don't need the mice(red 
herring) you need the rats so drop the mice. The dog is a 
Hellhound read up on them in the Mayors files.

I have not found any carrots (for the cow I presume).

You must turn around, look around and move your curser 
over the screen to find places and things you have missed. Go 
back to places to see if anything has changed.

Don't get CRANKy about the carrots but you will need them 
to milk the cow a second time!  Eat the bonding plant. You 
can get another one later when you can fly with V.A.L. DIG?  
If you destroy the plant another will grow. You need the plant 
a piece of the disk you get for success in the Comedy Club 
later.  You need four jokes on your recorder for success in 
the comedy club.  The Whispering Woods is a maze, but you 
need to have something that prevents blindness, See? 
Mommy told you to drink your milk at least three times didn't 
she? The forest of the Spirits is a large 100 room maze. You 
must map it out. To map it remember that clicking right or 
left just turns you in that direction and has not moved you 
into another room. Turning around is the same.

Enter the Forest of the Spirits and go NEES. You'll see a 
money tree there. Hit it with the true sword and you'll get 
some coins.
