	  Microsoft's MS-DOS(R) version 6.0 and Autodesk Products

Microsoft's release 6.0 of the Disk Operating System, (MS-DOS 6.0)
offers several significant advantages for Autodesk customers. MS-DOS 6.0
contains advanced memory management tools and an assortment of useful
utilities. All Autodesk products work properly with MS-DOS 6.0.

AutoCAD Release 12
No modifications are necessary for AutoCAD R12 to run with
MS-DOS 6.0.

AutoCAD Release 11c2
Customers using the MemMaker feature of MS-DOS 6.0 should specify
that they have applications requiring expanded memory. MemMaker defaults
by configuring EMM386.EXE for NOEMS, which will cause AutoCAD R11c2 to
launch with the Phar Lap error 35: "CPU is in Virtual 8086 mode".

Note: Earlier versions of AutoCAD Release 11 are linked with Phar Lap
386|DOS-Extender 2.2b. Use NEWDX.EXE to update the Phar Lap extender to
version 2.6.

AutoCAD Release 11 - 286
AutoCAD for 286 machines will take full advantage of the additional
base memory freed by MS-DOS 6.0 by running DOS in the High Memory Area.

AutoCAD Release 10c10a
AutoCAD Release 10c10a is linked with Phar Lap 386|DOS-Extender
2.2b. Use NEWDX.EXE to update the Phar Lap extender to version 2.6.

If the Phar Lap extender has been updated to version 2.6, customers
should specify that they have applications requiring expanded memory
when using the MemMaker feature of MS-DOS 6.0. MemMaker defaults by
configuring EMM386.EXE for NOEMS, which will cause AutoCAD R10c10a to launch
with the Phar Lap error 35: "CPU is in Virtual 8086 mode".

AutoCAD Release 10c7
AutoCAD for 286 machines will take full advantage of the additional
base memory freed by MS-DOS 6.0.

Customers using HIMEM.SYS and EMM386.EXE on 80386 machines through
MemMaker should specify that they have applications requiring expanded memory.

Extended AutoLISP will not work with SMARTDRV loaded.

AutoShade 2.1 with RenderMan
AutoShade 2.1 with RenderMan is linked with Phar Lap 386|DOS-Extender
2.2b. Customers should specify that they have applications requiring
expanded memory when using the MemMaker feature of MS-DOS 6.0. MemMaker
defaults by configuring EMM386.EXE for NOEMS, which will cause AutoShade to
launch with the Phar Lap error 35: "CPU is in Virtual 8086 mode".

AutoShade 2.0
AutoShade 2.0 will take full advantage of the additional base memory
freed by MS-DOS 6.0.

Animator Pro
Animator Pro is linked with Phar Lap 386|DOS-Extender 2.2b. Do not
use the EMM386.EXE device driver with Animator Pro.

3D Studio Release 2
3D Studio is linked with Phar Lap 386|DOS-Extender 2.6. Do not use
the EMM386.EXE device driver with 3D Studio.

3D Studio Release 1
3D Studio is linked with Phar Lap 386|DOS-Extender 2.2b. Do not use
the EMM386.EXE device driver with 3D Studio.

James Gleick's CHAOS: The Software
As with MS-DOS 5.0, it is necessary to load the metashel program
using the MS-DOS utility loadfix. Edit the CHAOS.BAT with an ASCII text
editor. Change the line containing "metashel /i" to "loadfix metashel /i".
See the MS-DOS 6.0 User's Guide for more information on the loadfix utility.

CA Lab
CA Lab will take full advantage of the additional base memory freed
by MS-DOS 6.0.

Multimedia Explorer
Autodesk Animator and Multimedia Explorer will take full advantage
of the additional base memory freed by MS-DOS 6.0.

Notes: NEWDX.EXE is a patch for the AutoCAD executable file which can be
downloaded from the Autodesk Global Village Bulletin Board (phone:
(415) 289-2270) or from CompuServe.

Customers using the DoubleSpace feature of MS-DOS 6.0 should direct
Autodesk products' temporary and swap files to a non-compressed disk
partition.
