Scheduling a Meeting with Drag/Drop
------------------------------------------------------------------

Schedule/Meeting items can be scheduled by dragging names from
the Phone Book object to the Calendar object.
To schedule a Meeting using the Calendar:
1. Highlight the name(s) from the Phone Book object that
are to attend the meeting.
2. Press the <ALT> key on your keyboard and drag the highlighted
name(s) to the date on the Calendar that the Meeting is to be
scheduled.
3. The Schedule/Meeting form appears with the text "Meeting
with" in the Description field followed by the name(s) of the
selected Phone Book entries. Note: There is a 100 character
limit on the number of characters that will display in the
Description field. Thus, if you selected 10 names in the
Phone Book, you may not be able to see all of the names in
the Description field.
4. Each of the selected Phone Book records are attached to
the Schedule/Meeting record.

NOTE:
Schedule/Meeting items can also be scheduled by dragging a record
from the Phone Book object to the Month View, Day View, and
Commitments.
***The Schedule/Meeting form does not appear if you drag a record
to the Day View or Commitments objects.
***If the Phone Book record(s) are dropped on an individual
time slot, then the meeting will be scheduled for 1 hour from
the indicated starting time.

Refer to the Advantage On-Line Help for more information on drag
and drop scheduling for Meetings.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Record Type Field
------------------------------------------------------------------

The Record Type field allows you to display the Form Name
(i.e. Phone Book, Contact, Schedule/Meeting, etc.) that was used
when entering information into Advantage. The Form Name field
is used in the following:

***Global Record Manager
The Global Record Manager allows you to display records from all
Advantage Forms (Phone Book, Contact, Schedule/Meeting, etc.)
The first column that appears by default on the Global Record
Manager object is the Record Type field. This field allows you
to display the Form Name that was used when entering information
into Advantage. For instance, the Global Record Manager will
display in the Record Type field the Form Name used when
entering the information as well as the Primary field
information for the Form. Refer to the Global Record Manager
in the Advantage Help File for more information.

***All option from the Search menu
Selecting All from the Search menu searches every Advantage Form
and displays the records from each Form in the Global Record
Window. The Record Type field appears in the first column of
the Global Record Window allowing you to view the Form Name that
was used when entering the information into Advantage.

***Searching Attachments
Searching Attachments from any Record-Manager object using the
Search Attachments button displays the Global Record Window. The
Record Type field appears in the first column of the Global
Record Window allowing you to view the Form Name that was used
when entering the information into Advantage.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Polaris Conversion Utility
------------------------------------------------------------------

Included with Advantage is the Polaris Conversion Utility which
allows you to convert Lotus Organizer files to Polaris Advantage
files. Advantage can convert Lotus Organizer versions 1.0 and
1.1. If you are using OS2, you must maximize Windows to full
screen before beginning the conversion.

To access the Conversion Utility:
1. Locate the orgcnvrt.exe in your Advantage directory from File
Manager.
2. Double-click on the .exe file to open the Conversion Utility.
3. Select Contents from the Help menu and follow the steps for
Converting your Lotus Organizer files.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Installing the PIL for WordPerfect 6.0
------------------------------------------------------------------

If you chose to install the PIL for WordPerfect 6.0, you will not
actually see the menu options until you do the following steps:
1. Start WordPerfect 6.0.
2. From the File menu, select Preferences. The Preferences dialog
box displays.
3. Double-click on File to display the File Preferences dialog box.
4. Click on the Templates button and then select the proper
Default File field by clicking on the file button on the far right
of the Default File field. This displays the Select File dialog
box.
5. Browse for the advantge.wpt file in the macros sub-directory
of wpwin60. Click OK on the Select File dialog box.
6. Click OK on the File Preferences dialog box and Close on the
Preferences dialog box. You should now have an Advantage menu
added to your WordPerfect desktop.

Note: If you have customized your WordPerfect menu template, you
will need to copy the Advantage menu into your custom template.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Using Edit menu-Undo for cut text
------------------------------------------------------------------

The Undo option from the Edit menu allows you to undo text that
have been cut from any editable field using the Edit menu Cut
option. You can not Undo the text that have been cut using
the <CTRL> X or <SHIFT> <DELETE> shortcut keys.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Contact History dialog box
------------------------------------------------------------------

The Contact History dialog box that appears when highlighting a
Phone Book (or Phone Log) record and clicking the History button
displays the notes from the Phone Book entry as well as notes
taken on each Conversation with the person. The Contact History
dialog box will display up to 32K of notes.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Proper Control Panel Date Settings
------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are using the Windows 12-hour date format, make sure that
you are using AM/PM to distinguish between before (2:00 AM) and
after noon (2:00 PM).

------------------------------------------------------------------
Searching for Numerics
------------------------------------------------------------------

If you use a Key field on an Advantage Form to enter numeric
numbers, the numeric information may not display the desired
results when searching. For instance, if you entered the
following:

1000 in Key 1 (Phone Book record 1)
120 in Key 1 (Phone Book record 2)

search using the criteria Key 1 greater than 110 would only
find the record containing 120 because it is performing an
alphanumeric search. Note: Enter all of your numerics in the
same format. As in the above example, entering 0120 instead
of 120, would display the correct results when searching.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Changing the number of Sort Characters
------------------------------------------------------------------

The number of characters that Advantage sorts on can be changed
from the Advantge.ini file. For instance, iSortChars=10 is
the default for the sort characters. This means that if the
first 15 characters in a field are the same in two or more
different records, then they will not sort properly on the
Record-Manager object. Only the first 10 characters will be
used in the sort. The number of sort characters can be
increased, but the performance of Advantage may be affected
due to the increased time it will take to sort on the additional
characters. To change the value of the sort characters:
1. Open the Windows File Manager and locate the Advantge.ini
file in your Windows directory.
2. Double-click on the Advantge.ini file. The Advantge.ini file
appears in the Windows Notepad.
3. Locate the iSortChars= line under the [DBMS] section.
4. Make the desired change to the iSortChars value.
5. Save the change made to the Advantage.ini file (File
menu-Save) and Exit the Windows Notepad.
Note: You should not sort on less than 6 characters because the
resulting list will probably be unusable.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Importing Records with " Double Quotes in a Field
------------------------------------------------------------------

As stated in the Advantage User's Guide and On-line Help, you
should avoid using double quotes in the fields of any records
you wish to import into Advantage. The reason for this is to
eliminate problems during the import process. Double quotes
are interpreted by Advantage as the end of a record. For
example, if you are importing into Advantage a record that
has double quotes at the beginning of the Notes field,
Advantage will end the record where the double quotes are and
begin a new record with your remaining Notes field. Consequently,
you will have an increased number of records imported and the
fields will be mismatched.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Installing the PIL for other Polaris Products
------------------------------------------------------------------

Polaris Software also offers the PIL options with its PackRat
product. If you have both Advantage and PackRat installed on
your system, only install the PIL options for either Advantage
or PackRat. Do not install the PIL for both products.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Using the PIL with WordPerfect
------------------------------------------------------------------

To use the PIL options from WordPerfect, Advantage must be loaded
before running any of the PIL macros. If Advantage is not
running, the WordPerfect macros may not be executed correctly.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Printing Reports
------------------------------------------------------------------

*** When printing records using an Advantage Report or printing
from an Advantage Record Manager Object, the records must be
highlighted before printing the Report.

*** When selecting specific records to be printed, please keep in
mind that the records will be printed in the order they are
selected, not the order in which they appear.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Handheld Transfer
------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have broken the fields entered into the Casio into several
lines separated by a hard-tab, make sure the Advantage Template
matches the information entered into the Casio. For instance,
if the Number field of the Casio contains only 1 phone
number (shown below),
Name: Doe, John
	  Polaris Software
Number: (619) 555-1212
Address: 2112 Rush St.
	  San Diego, CA 92127

and you are importing information using the Boss Tel2 template,
which contains the PHONE_BUSINESS and PHONE_FAX
fields,(shown below),

	<<FULLNAME>>
	<<COMPANY>>
	<<PHONE_BUSINESS>>
	<<PHONE_FAX>>
	<<ADDR1_STREETA>>
	<<ADDR1_CITY>>,
	<<ADDR1_STATESABB>>
	<<ADDR1_ZIPCODE>>

the ADDR1_STREETA field will be imported into the PHONE_FAX field
of the Phone Book form.

Optimizing performance with a Ram Disk
------------------------------------------------------------------

To optimize the performance of Advantage:
1. If you have at least 4 meg. of RAM, set up a RAMDrive in your
Config.sys file. We recommend that you set up a 1 meg.
RAMDrive. Refer to your DOS manual for information on creating
a RAMDrive.
2. Once you have created the RAMDrive described in #1 above,
direct your temp files to the RAMDrive using SET TEMP= in your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Refer to your Windows manual for information
on using a RAMDrive for temp files.
3. Use a Hard Disk Cache such as SMARTDRV.EXE. Refer to your
Windows manual for information on using a Hard Disk Cache.

------------------------------------------------------------------
File Backup Procedure
------------------------------------------------------------------

As described in the Advantage User's Guide, your config.adb,
alerts.adl, attaches.ada, and your user files (*.add, *.adi)
should be backed up regularly. To backup these files:
1. Open the Windows File Manager
2. Locate your Advantage directory. (i.e. C:\Advantge)
3. Insert the appropriate diskette in to your drive (a or b).
4. Highlight the file to be backed up and drag it up to the
desired drive (a or b) that appears in the File Manager.
5. Repeat Step 4 for each additional file that needs to be
backed up.

---------------------------------------------------------------
Rebuilding Files
---------------------------------------------------------------

When Rebuilding your files in Advantage, be sure to turn off
any screen saver applications you may have running before you
begin the Rebuild process. For more information on Rebuilding
files, refer to the Advantage Help file.
