INSTALLATION
------------

1. Place the program files (CDFINDER.EXE and CDFINDER.HLP) in a directory
of your choice, for example C:\CDFINDER.

2. In the Windows program manager (or desktop manager you are using), add a
program item to a group of your choice. Specify:
      Description: CD-ROM File Finder
      Command line: C:\CDFINDER\CDFINDER.EXE
      Working directory: C:\CDFINDER
Substitute the actual drive + directory where you put the files in step 1.
   Press OK.

3. Launch the program. The first time you launch the program you will be
presented with an "Open Catalog" box. Since no catalog yet exists, click
   on "Cancel".

4. The program will prompt "No catalog file open; Do you want to create one?"
   Click on "Yes".

5. You'll be prompted for a title. You can enter a descriptive title of the
disk(s) you'll be cataloging, or leave the title blank. If left blank, a
generic title will appear on the search screen.

6. You'll be prompted with a "Save Catalog As" box. Enter a DOS file name in
the "File Name" box, then click "OK".

7. Program Will prompt "Select Drive". Check that the drive letter is that of
the drive that will be used to mount the disk(s) and change the letter if
   required, then click "Begin Scanning".

8. The directory of the disk will be read. When it completes, the program will
return to the "Select Drive" box. If you have another disk to catalog, mount
it and wait for the drive to come ready, then click "Begin Scanning". If you
are done, click "Finished Reading Disks".

9. After you click "Finished Reading Disks", several indices will be sorted
and written to the catalog file. When this completes, the catalog will be
opened and ready for use. The standard search screen will appear.

HOW TO SEARCH THE CATALOG
-------------------------

Type a DOS file name in the "Enter Search Key" box.

As you type, the names in the box immediately below will scroll. When you see
the file you want, click on the name with the mouse (or hit the tab key and
move through the list with the arrow keys).

As soon as a name is selected, a list of the related files appears in the large
box to the right. Each file shows the DOS file name, the volid of the disk, and
the directory path name where the file can be found. IF YOU CANNOT SEE THE
ENTIRE PATH NAME: single-click on any file and the path name will be displayed
in the message bar at the bottom of the screen.

USING THE RESULT LIST
---------------------

To pass a file name from the search result list to another Windows application:
(1) In the large box on the right, single click on the desired file. (2) Pull
down the Options menu and select "Copy Selected Path Name To Clipboard". This
will place the text from the message bar on the Windows clipboard. (3) Toggle
over to the receiving application, and select the File/Open or File/Import menu
(whichever is appropriate). (4) With the cursor in the file name field, hold
down the Shift key and press the Insert key. This will paste the text from the
clipboard. You may need to press the home key and insert the drive letter where
the disk is mounted.

To launch an application directly from CDFINDER: Double click on any item in
the large box on the right. CDFINDER may ask that you provide the drive letter
where the corresponding disk has been mounted. You can launch any file type for
which there is an association in the Windows File Manager.
