Software Tools for Artists Catalog as of May, 1994

Thank you for inquiring about our algorithmic software. All
the software runs under MSDOS and with certain restrictions
under a DOS box in Windows. None is available for the Mac. To
order, you may print the file ORDER.TXT, or if you prefer, you
may call our toll free order number, 1-800-900-3070 and pay
with MasterCard or Visa. No additional charge for shipping,
which will be by first class mail.

The following MIDI programs are compatible with MPU and Key
serial MIDI interfaces:

Kinetic Music Machine or KMM ($79) is an algorithmic composing
program particularly suited to developing original material. It
consists of a multi-page workspace, and a "toolbox" of computation
functions, abstractly represented as synth modules, complete with
output and inputs. These are connected in real time with the mouse,
as you listen to the changes. Technically, KMM is considered a direct
manipulation metalanguage. This puts it about halfway between a
music programming language and a video game. All input is with the
mouse, where you are either connecting modules together tinker toy
fashion, or you are dialing in parameter values. The power of KMM is
in its flexibility and the constant real time feedback: every change
you make is immediately seen and heard. You get interesting simple
patterns almost instantly, and then step by step you can go on to
develop the patterns into full musical compositions of virtually
unlimited complexity and subtlety.

Melodia/Pro ($79) is an algorithmic composing program set up as
groups of musical/algorithmic process such as step sequencers
and random generators. You make connections to these processes
while the music is running in real time, and modify the
processes as you listen to the changes. Although the musical
compositions created with Melodia can be quite similar to those
created by KMM, Melodia is "higher level" in concept and use,
more like a spreadsheet than a programming language. Melodia
includes powerful built in tools for converting ASCII text, DNA
sequences, and integer data files of almost any type to
musically intelligible patterns and source material. For
maximum performance a 486/33 cpu or better is recommended.

Melodia/TS ($69) is another of the Melodia series of algorithmic
music programs that share a similar interface but use different
methods to generate the music. Melodia/TS uses a Table Sequencer
which provides smart multi level stage sequencing, similar to
what was available on the old modular studio synthesizers, but
far more sophisticated. It also uses a unique type of rhythm
generator, a bouncing ball confined in a box, that is fun to use
and very musical.

MIDI Algorithmic Suite ($179) is a limited time combination
offer of all three of the above algorithmic composing programs.
You save $48.

Paladin for Emu Proteus ($99) is a full featured editor for
developing new sounds on Proteus Synths including Vintage Keys
and Wave Blaster, and it is a librarian for managing those
sounds. Extensive automatic online help and a mouse interface
makes it easy to learn and fast and intuitive to use. With
Paladin, you have full access to all the power and flexibility
of Emu's Proteus.

MIDI Shareware Suite ($29) is a shareware package of all of
the above programs, which is refundable upon the purchase of any
of the programs. All of the shareware versions are fully
functional, but they only allow you to work with one file name
at a time.

Other available programs:

Paladin for Wave Blaster ($29) is a full featured editor for
developing new sounds on Creative Lab's Wave Blaster, and it is
a librarian for managing those sounds. Extensive automatic
online help and a mouse interface makes Paladin easy to learn
and fast and intuitive to use. Every hardware feature of the
Wave Blaster is accessible through Paladin. With Paladin, all
the power of Emu's Proteus Synthesizer engine becomes available
to the Wave Blaster.

Melodia/SC ($19) is an algorithmic composing program for all
Adlib compatible sound cards. It is a somewhat simplified
version of Melodia/Pro described above, with the addition of an
editor/librarian for the FM sound generator.

Kaleidoscope ($19) is a beautiful and mesmerizing screen saver
that runs on most any VGA. DOS based but can also run under
Windows. Not a TSR: it does not stay resident when you are
running your applications, does not take memory from them or
interfere with them in any way, and it will not pop up while you
are in the middle of something. There are options to control
speed and to change the amount of color blend from pure colors
to pastel.

Info Disk ($7) contains the manuals, tutorials, and info files
from all currently available programs. This is refundable
upon the purchase of any software package.
