Welcome !

You just downloaded the demo-version of the graphics editor
GE16M. Move all files contained in this ZIP file to the directory
C:\GE16M (or similar). If the configuration file GE16M.CFG exists
for some reason before running the program for the first time,
please delete it or use parameter -SVGA0 when executing the
program. Run the program by running GE16M.EXE. First, you have to
enter the video card adapter number from the list. If your
graphic card is not listed, choose compatible one. If you are
unable to find proper driver, run the program VGACHECK.EXE to
make a new driver that will be included in GE16M.VGA. The program
gives you detailed instructions on how to control it. Then
re-run the editor with parameter -SVGA0 to force adapter list
display.
The program currently supports VESA standard. To run in VE-
SA mode, 8-bit, type GE16M -SVGA100. If you want to run in full
color mode, type GE16M -SVGA200 -\VSAx, where x can be 0 or 1,
depending on your graphics card. First try with 0 and then if the
screen is distorted try 1. Sometimes you need to load VESA BIOS
extension prior to initializing VESA modes (or certain modes).
If you experience some strange problems (freezing etc.) you
may try to install GE16MP.COM, by typing GE16MP I at the command
prompt. This patches some strange BIOSes to enable GE16M run pro-
perly. Usually this is not necessary.

The Graphics Editor GE16M for IBM PC compatible computers,
demo-version.

This graphics editor is designated for editing and drawing
full-color images (16 million colors). It is easy to use,
relatively simple, but still contains many very powerful
functions. Originally, it was developed for drawing pictures for
multimedia applications, but you can use the program even in
conjunction with desktop publishing programs, because these
usually do not provide sufficient editing capabilities for
graphics. The program has little system requirements, highly
optimized critical routines enable it to run fairly fast even on
slower computers -- you can try to run this program on 386 system
with 1MB memory (yes, it'll work even on that system). However,
functions that use floating point operations run much faster on
486DX machines or machines with coprocessor.
Also, this editor contains many unique features not found
in other, even professional, editors. Among them, multiple Undo
function provides you space to almost unlimited experimentation
with filters and drawing modes. A small "magnification glass" in
the corner of the screen shows you enlarged area under cursor,
enabling you, e.g., to precisely connect lines. While working
with the image, you can put guidelines on the screen to help you
position the cursor properly, e.g., when aligning multipl
e objects. You can use even guidelines that are not parallel with
X or Y axis.
This editor knows eleven graphic formats for import and
seven for export, so you can import images from variety of
sources and use resulting images in almost any program, too.
You will need 1MB of VRAM to run the program in full-color
mode. If you have only 512KB, the program can be run in 256 color
mode, where the color is composed using colors in 256-color
palette. However, this mode hides some details. It is recommended
to use full-color mode if possible.
You will need a Microsoft compatible mouse (if the driver
supplied with mouse is not fully compatible, use MOUSE.COM what
comes with Windows or DOS) to work with the editor. Almost all
the functions are selectable from the icon menu located on the
left side of the screen. This menu enables you to reach any
function in at most three mouse clicks.
