                                  VGA-COPY PRO
                                  ************

The BEST replacement for DOS DISKCOPY, FORMAT and DISKCOMP you can get !

    * Gives you a graphical user interface to allow easy operation.

    * Copies, formats and compares disks up to 2,88 MB in one go.

    *  Supports McAfee anti-virus tools.

    * Full SOUNDBLASTER or PC speaker support.

The graphical user interface should be self-explaining for most func-
tions. This text should explain the "hidden" or more tricky abillities of
the program, especially the transdisk and batch mode operation.

    TRANSDISK MODE

In some cases it may be useful to copy a complete disk to an image file
on your hard disk. To activate this option, you must specify a filename
with a ".VCP" extension when starting VGA-COPY PRO. Now, you can work with
VGA-COPY as you always did, just the buffer won't be erased. For example,
to use the file "C:\VGACOPY\DISK1.VCP" as your image file, type in the
following command at the DOS prompt:

    VGACOPY C:\VGACOPY\DISK1

    BATCH MODE OPERATION

You can use the batch mode to automatize disk copying or just to set your
favorite settings automatically. You don't have to learn complicated
options, just type VGACOPY -! followed by the same Keys you would use when
using the program normally. For example, if you want VGACOPY to read the
content of drive A into the image on the hard disk, you start the program
typing VGACOPY C:\VGACOPY\DISK1 and then you press the "A" button on your
keyboard to switch to drive A, followed by "R" to start reading the disk.
    So, if you type in
    VGACOPY C:\VGACOPY\DISK1 -!AR
all these actions take place automtically.
If you want to enable or disable VGA-COPY settings, type in an "/",
followed by the corresponding key, and then "+" to enable or "-" to
disable the setting. For example, do disable automatic formatting, use
    "-!" and then "/F-".

    TRACK DISPLAY & ERROR LOCATION

The color of the trackdisplay indicates its status:
If VGA-COPY is idle, the digits are green.
During read/write operations, it shows the actual track number.
    The digits are yellow.
If an error has happened, it shows the error number in red color:

        01 unsupported drive type
        02 format error
        03 write protected disk
        04 sector not found
        C0 controller refuses disk format
        40 drive not ready
        80 no disk in drive
BX operation on drive X aborted

USING McAFEE'S SCAN AND CLEAN WITH VGA-COPY

You should have a copy of Mc Afee's SCAN.EXE and CLEAN.EXE in your path,
and environmental variables (SCAN for SCAN.EXE and KILL for CLEAN.EXE)
specifying the path, the (SCAN or CLEAN) executable and the desired
options. Then you can use them with VGA-COPY.
    Example:
    SET SCAN=C:\VIRUS\SCAN.EXE /NOMEM
    SET KILL=C:\VIRUS\CLEAN.EXE

    OTHER SUPPORTED ENVIRONMENTAL VARIABLES:

TEMP specifies the directory used by VGA-COPY to swap the content of
            the buffer.
            Example:
            SET TEMP=C:\TEMP

INFO by default, VGA-COPY uses the DIR command to show the contents of
a disk. If you prefer another command or program, you should set
            the INFO environmental variable
            Example:
            SET INFO=C:\TOOLS\SHOWDIR.EXE

    KEYBOARD COMMANDS

Most of the keyboard commands are shown in the graphical user interface:
Klicking a pushbutton or typing the underlined key will have
the same effects. Here are some less "visible" keyboard commands:

ESC/SPACE to cancel any actions in proces
HOME/END switches between color and b/w mode
F1 - F12 hotkey to choose a special disk format without the format
                selection box

    THE MODIFY OPTION

When the modify option is active, VGA-COPY copies a special boot sector to
every disk being copied or formatted. Now, when you reboot your computer
with a (modified) diskette in your boot drive, the system will continue
the boot procedure from your hard disk instead of complaining about
"No system disk or boot error"..
